Pieces I Never Did

(Co Curated project)

Unfinished ideas, abandoned projects, and unrealised visions come together in 'Pieces I Never Did,' an exhibition that explores the creative process through works that remain incomplete or were never realised. Bringing together works by more than a dozen artists, all connected to Dundee.

The exhibition’s title is inspired by David Critchley’s video work Pieces I Never Did (1979), which is featured as part of this show. This exhibition considers what the term "unrealised" means to each artist. By sharing them, we invite viewers to consider what fuels artistic ambition, what holds it back, and what happens when an idea is given a second chance.

However, not all unfinished work is accidental. Some projects are intentionally left open-ended, resisting resolution as a deliberate act. In contemporary art can often spark curiosity or critique. Non-traditional and post-modern works may initially seem unfinished, but they reflect dedication, exploration and artistic effort.

In celebrating the unresolved, Pieces I Never Did reclaims the unfinished, not as a failure, but as a testament to the endless cycles of creativity, reflection, and reinvention.
